2026-w21 sun
The word that sums up this week is: sun!. By golly it was lovely this week. The weather finally broke and it’s been glorious. I’ve also had an extra two days annual leave this week (with the kids at school ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!), which has been so restful.
A top moment for me was getting a load of charity shop picture frames and decorating the hall & stairs. I also rearranged my bedroom a little: got a second hand bedside table and moved my old writing bureau to the side; feels a bit more open now. Something I’m looking forward to next week is picnics for lunch at work. I got a cheap camping chair I’ll keep at the office and take out for lunches.

Understanding. I have been thinking about seasonality in life: in particular how to downshift a little at work in the summery months. These couple days off has got me thinking about making this more ‘formal’. I had some counselling sessions through work; it’s been useful to think through how I can build emotional regulation skills to handle my inner ‘manager voice’.
Creating & cultivating. My wife and I are enjoying decorating the house now that the painting is (mostly) done. It feels like the last of the extension is complete, only taken 2 years! I’m starting to design a custom desk for my youngest, who has a tiny bedroom; and I got to assemble some MDF gaming scenery. Made a mixtape with an album I got by Young Gun Silver Fox. Trying out meditation again.
Consuming. Lots of ice cream, also cookies. Reading a bit of Wheel of Time Book 10 still in the prologue… Picnic outside: nachos with homemade salsa.
Connecting. It was nice to spend some time with my wife this long weekend including going round DIY shopping; choosing curtains together. It was fun to see where my kids play cricket localy. We had some friends round for lunch on Sunday and then went to my parents’ for dessert in the evening.
Pen & ink combo: Lamy 2000 with 🟫 Monteverde Brown Sugar
For my future self. It’s good to disconnect.
