2026-w13 cultivating
The word that sums up this week is: cultivating. I have been putting the final pieces into place for my new plaintext admin system, plus giving desperately needed tlc for my houseplants. Took me ages to find citrus-appropriate potting soil. A top moment for me was lying on the couch at lunch, with a fire on, drifting off listening to Hiroshi Yoshimura.
Something I’m looking forward to next week is a (mostly) meeting free day at work!

Understanding.** Learned about calendar.txt and using it now to schedule personal tasks. Also noticed how helpful it is for me emotionally to give tasks to my team at the right level of initiative: to not ‘carry them’. Also learning, irritatingly, how to manage someone’s performance improvement plan.
Creating & cultivating.** My plaintext system (see last post). I’m nearly there with it but I won’t bore you! Some work repotting my citrus trees (and others) and bits & bobs around the house e.g. a row of hooks for all the kids’ school bags. Failed to fix a thermostatic shower valve (cartridge screwed in too far!?).
Consuming.** Some lovely wine. Cadbury Creme Eggs yum! Backlog of posts by Ellanew.
Connecting.** Fun reading Sir Terry Pratchett to the kids (‘The Truth’). Some of it is way over their heads, but they get more and more of the humour.
Pen & ink combo: TWSBI Vac 700 with 🟨 Sailor 770
For my future self. I need to make extra effort on my off ramps this week
